Welcome and Day 1: Commit to your self-care
Welcome and thank you for beginning the 30-Day Yoga Journey!
Prepare to be inspired, challenged, validated, frustrated and perhaps even enlightened.
Each day for the next 30 days you will receive a new tool for beginning or enhancing your yoga practice -meditations, mantras, hatha yoga practices, communication tools and more.
This journey is appropriate for new comers to yoga and long-term practitioners so feel free to share it with your students, teachers and friends.
Your first day begins right now!
Day1 is below...ready? Let's begin together. Ommmmmmm.
Fondly,
Deborah Bernstein, Creator of the30-day Yoga Journey
Let's Begin now....
Call it what you will, "a fat-off", "re-commitment to the path of yoga", or simply "living well"....I'm beginning a journey. I invite you to join me. You may have very different reasons from me, but the reason is not what is important, it is the process and the community support. Two years of an erratic schedule (and several other equally great excuses) has insidiously added a whopping 20 pounds to my 5 foot tall body. Eeeek. Just putting this in writing is unpleasant for me...equally unpleasant was remembering that nine years ago Patriot's Day (a holiday here in Boston...AKA"Marathon Monday") I ran the Boston Marathon, and today, I would have difficulty completing a 10k. So yesterday, while prepping our house for sale (oh, another good excuse for gaining weight...moving), Scott, Chris (our realtor and friend)and I started what Scott coined a "fat off". Here are the rules of our fat-off: Whomever looses 10% of our body weight first, "wins". If I win...the guys treat me to a spa day...if one of the guys wins, the two non-winners treat to Red Sox tickets.
The fat-off is the catalyst for my journey. Winning it is not the goal.
I have a daily meditation practice and a daily yoga practice. My yoga practice has been mostly restorative for the past 6 months and erratic in the time of day and duration of my practice. My cardiovascular and muscle conditioning routine has been sporadic, at best and non-existent for stretches of up to two weeks sometimes. My energy level is generally moderate, and I find I need more sleep than "usual". I share this information with you as a framework for my starting point. And in the spirit of vinyasa krama, or "starting where you are", this is where my journey begins (at least on the surface). I've sketched out a process of physical, spiritual, intellectual, and emotionally nourishing practices to live over the next 30-days. They are practices that have worked for me in the past in enhancing my well-being and they are practices that I have researched and learned about from others. If you want to join me on this journey, I will offer suggestions each day for the next 30 days. Some of the suggestions may be practices you are familiar with, others may be new to you. Some will resonate, others will not. But join me and let's see where we go together. Let's enjoy the process....ready?
Day 1: Commit to your self-care
For today, write an affirmation that is a contract with yourself.
Commit to 30-days of wellness, perhaps note a goal, or perhaps keep it open-ended to see what outcomes arise naturally. Here is my affirmation, feel free to use it too. But be sure to put it in writing (even if it is typing it into the comment field of this article)
I, _______________, understand that I am undertaking an exciting, creative, and intense journey to enable physical, intellectual and spiritual self-nurturing. I understand that there will be days that this will be challenging; I will remain committed to my journey throughout those difficult days because I have support and because I care about my well-being. 30 days to feeling more energized...it will not necessarily be linear. I will remember this on the days that feel like I am regressing.
I look forward to the journey together.
NAMASTE. Deborah Bernstein
