INTRODUCTIONS
Heather Hixon, Renaissance Healing Center, explained the difference between Premium and Basic Membership in JAYA. PREMIUM Members at some point would be willing to contribute dues for the expansion of JAYA. BASIC Members can attend to network without paying. Membership forms are available for choosing your membership type.
Melissa Johnson, Yoga Ananda, is starting to build a website for JAYA and it will
be completed soon. She indicated that her studio is still enrolling for the Radiant Child Teacher Training Program. And, they are looking for an Acupuncturist to work at
their Wellness Center a couple of days a week.
Lisa Long announced that she and 3 other teachers are forming a 500-Hour Teacher Training. The other teachers participating are Joyce Savitz, Dawn Shay and Terry Morrison. This program beginning in 2010 will be under the direction of Jenny Otto and will host other national teachers. Both Jacksonville Yoga and Mindful Motion Yoga will present the events. www.RYT500.com

Joan Ryan, Radiant Wellness Center, will start an Integrative Yoga Therapy Teacher Training in February 2010. This will be a 10 Month Non-Residential Weekend Program
for students who wish to teach yoga for total therapeutic wellness.
Seka Roberts from Lululemon asked for Teachers to teach Karma Yoga on Sundays for
free community Yoga. There are openings for Sunday of October and all of November.
Lululemon will be hosting a big party on October 25 for their Research and Development
members. They have also offered to host the next JAYA meeting, which will be a Christmas Party. A discussion ensued as to whether JAYA members should make a financial contribution and Seka will check this out with her management. Will it be a love offering or cover charge or nothing?
Kate Cordell, Ocean Yoga, announced their free Community Global Mala on September 20. She circulated flyers for Christopher Baxter’s upcoming Workshop on Energy and Emotions on October 11. Also, informed the group about the 11the Step, Recovery Yoga which is a donation class offered Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.

Heather Hixon, Renaissance Healing Center, indicated that members of JAYA receive 15% off on massages and facials. Their boutique is closing and they are having a 50% off sale on the items in the boutique.
DISCUSSIONS:
Heather keeps a 3 ring binder for workshops and teachers who wish to be on a sub list.
She asked that we write that information in that book. Or, we can email our events
to her blog address:
www.jayajax.blogspot.com. Please be sure to put these in TEXT format so that they can easily be cut and paste. Should this blog be public or private? Heather will research this.
Heather began a discussion on publicity and how we can get the word out about JAYA and how can we do it cheaply (FREE). Getting into Jacksonville Magazine would be a good outlet as many people traveling to Jax see this magazine in their hotel and it would give us great visibility to travelers.
Lisa Long will do some press releases and try Natural Awakenings, Jacksonville Magazine, Folio Weekly and Jacksonville Business Journal.
In response to a request during the last JAYA meeting, Lisa Long did some research regarding non-profit organizations. Some members had thought that non-profit might be the way for JAYA to form. Lisa contacted MAYA (Mid Atlantic Yoga Assn.) and SATYA (Savanna) organizations, which have each been in existence for a long time.
MAYA is non-profit and was required to fill out a lot of paperwork to gain this status and is a more formal organization. SATYA is NOT non-profit and is more informal.
It seemed that the consensus of our group was that we would stay informal and NOT collect any money at this time but on an as needed basis.
Lisa Long initiated another discussion about the push by many states to license as vocational schools those doing Yoga Teacher Trainings. This is happening in several states and we received some articles about plight of these schools. How can we support these teachers in other states? Florida could be next.
Heather asked for teacher bios and photos for the blog and Melissa suggested that we should send a copy to her also for the website. We also have a Facebook page. Search JAYA Jax on Facebook to find it. Heather stated that unity and service are the intention, to serve the greater good and have Jacksonville recognized as a Yoga destination.
